Bike Fitting

Bike fitting is a major part of the business at SVCC and we want to ensure that you get the most out of the experience when you visit for a fit. We offer several different fit services depending on your budget and your goals.

We're confident in our skill, and stand behind it with a money back guarantee.

Summary

Here is the brief summary of SVCC's fit services. More details on each one are found below.

  • Pro-Fit: $250. Takes 2-3 hours. Includes detailed cleat positioning, honed with video analysis and foot measurements. Strongly recommended if you are struggling with foot, knee, or hip pain, or if you have structural issues such as a leg length discrepancy. The fitting can be done on your bike or on our adjustable Fitmaster bike, if you are shopping for a new bike and want to start with a clean slate to determine the proper geometry (also used for custom bike designs).
  • Fit consultation: $100, a dynamic fit that takes about 60-90 minutes and goes from the cleats to the helmet, but lacks the refinements allowed by video analysis and detailed cleat positioning. Also available on our Fitmaster adjustable bike, this is a popular service for those recreational riders looking to purchase a new bike, who want expert advice on sizing & fit in the absence of a sales pitch. You'll receive detailed measurements and guidance on the right frame geometry to look for as you go shopping.

While we help many clients improve their riding and solve injury or comfort problems with better bike fit, many also need to address issues off the bike or non-fit related riding isues. SVCC is now located with Integrate Performance Fitness, with a collection of training & conditioning experts who can help you with your posture, strength, and flexibility off the bike. Besides making you a better cyclist, they can help you move with greater ease and purpose, avoiding the aches and pains that come with imbalance and inflexibility. See our bike fit FAQ for answers to other common questions.

Pro-Fit

Our Pro-Fit service includes a thorough fit from the cleats up, and uses video motion capture software for both side and frontal video analysis to dial in your position. We've been to a number of fit schools and training programs, including FIST, Wobblenaught, and Bike Fit Systems. Ultimately the fit is not dictated by any formula or set protocol, but a combination of all this learning plus years of experience, your riding and training background, goals, and lots of feedback from you during the fit. Adjustments start from the bottom up - first the cleats and footbed (including use of shims, wedges, and for Speedplay users, testing with different spindle lengths if needed), then saddle height, angle, and setback, then finally the stem and handlebars. When you're done you'll leave with detailed measurements of your original fit and any changes we made.

Clients should budget 3 hours for a fit. Bring a second or third bike with you and we can set that up as well, we bill at our hourly shop rate of $75/hr. For most bikes, this is a 20-30 minute job. We'll set up cleats on a second pair of shoes for $15.

Sometimes a fit requires component changes and we stock a full size run of stems as well as a selection of favorite handlebars from 3T, FSA, Thomson, and other select vendors.

Pro-Fit and Frame Selection Consultation

If you are in the market for a new bike this is a great way to get a fit and make sure that you select the right frame size. It's much the same as the service we use when working on a custom frame design for a client, we go through the fit process on our Waterford Fitmaster, which is basically a "bike" with adjustable tube lengths, then provide guidance on what dimensions you should look for in a new frame. And of course if you choose to buy one of the premium quality bikes that we sell, the entire fee counts toward the purchase if you buy within 3 months.

This service is especially popular with triathletes looking to get a F.I.S.T. certified bike fit and determine the stack & reach parameters that Slowtwitch has popularized as the way to spec and select tri/TT bikes.

Fit Consultation

For recreational riders who want to ensure that they don't have any major issues with their fit and who want to simply improve their comfort level, we offer the fit consultation. It is a dynamic fit in that it involves you riding on an indoor trainer while we observe and then make adjustments to the fit, using our well-trained eyeballs and most importantly your feedback to make changes to your form and position on the bike. We address cleat issues such as rotation and fore-aft position, but this service does not include the use of wedges and/or shims to dial in the foot/pedal interface. If you have recurring knee pains or struggle to resolve foot pain, you may want to consider upgrading to the Pro-Fit which includes a more comprehensive set of potential solutions to these issues.

Fit Consultation on Fitmaster Adjustable Bike

Whether you are shopping for an expensive new carbon race bike or a flat bar townie to get around and drop a few pounds, this fit service is perfect for helping you to a better bike selection. It takes about an hour and when we're done you'll have detailed recommendations for frame geometry and component selection for your new bike, regardless of who you plan to buy it from.
