Tour of California Camp - Details
Summary
Camp starts Sunday morning, February 17. Plan to arrive in San Jose Saturday afternoon or early evening. We finish up on Wednesday, February 20 after the Stage 3 finish.
What's Included
Your $700 camp registration fee gets you the following:
- Transport between San Jose Airport and the hotel.
- Sag vehicle for all rides should you need to cut a day short, and you'll get plenty of ride and consultation time with the coaching staff if you need tips to improve your riding.
- Full mechanical support - the only time you touch your bike is to ride it! If you want to ship your bike ahead of time, no problem. UPS is our preferred shipper but we can work with any of the major companies, and we'll pack and ship the bike back to you when your trip is done (you are responsible for shipping fees). Estimate shipping fees here.
- Lunch on Tuesday in Santa Rosa and Wednesday in San Jose.
- All the nutritional supplements you'll need for the rides, including snacks and recovery nutrition at the end of each ride.
- Reduced rates on our BikeConcierge fleet of Look 585 bikes if you prefer to rent from us. Four days on a super-sexy Look carbon road bike for only $250 extra? Yep, we can do that.
What's Not Included
- Lodging. You can stay with our preferred hotel partner, the Campbell Inn , for just $99 per night double occupancy (tell them you are with SVCC when you make your reservation). There are two other hotel options just a block away in the Campbell Pruneyard area, (see links above in the sidebar) if those fit your style better. All are just a few miles from our studio and within walking distance of over a dozen restaurants as well as coffee shops, bookstores, etc.
- Breaksfast and dinner. All three hotel options include breaksfast with your room and there are many dining options in the immediate area, you'll have lots to conveniently choose from.
- Transport to non-camp sightseeing and activities. Normally our camps leave some time for extra-curricular activities but for this one, the Tour of California will consume most of your off-the-bike time. A rental car is an option to consider but with our packed itinerary you might not have a lot of time to use it.
Four days of riding not enough? We can provide tech and ride support, route planning, and nutritional supplements for extra days of riding in the area at $75/day.
Detailed Schedule
As you'll see from the schedule, this camp is packed with action and you'll be one busy bee for the four days. If you want to kick back and relax, you can stop reading now...
- Sunday - on the bikes at 8 a.m., for a loop on classic San Francisco Peninsula roads. We plan to cover Old La Honda, King Mountain, and visit the sleepy but beautiful town of Pescadero. We've arranged for shower facilities near the Stanford campus so you can clean up before we shuttle eveyone to the Prologue finish. Plan on getting back to the hotel at around 6 p.m.
- Monday - our longest day of the camp, we'll be on the road before 8 a.m. for the drive north through San Francisco, over the GG bridge to Sausalito. Start off on the race route snaking along Hwy 1 above the Pacific Ocean, then climb inland before descend towards Petaluma where the sag wagon will shuttle us to Santa Rosa for a late lunch and the Stage 1 finish. Arrive back at the hotel around 6 p.m. again.
- Tuesday - This is the most "relaxed" day of the camp, since we don't have to intercept the race. We'll start a little later, around 9:30 a.m., with a drive over to Patterson. From there we'll pick up the Stage 3 course and climb to the summit of Mt. Hamilton at 4,360', descend into the Valley then climb the dreaded Sierra road, where the peloton of the 2007 ToC was shattered. Your legs will be wobbly after this one, so you'll be happy to be back at your hotel by around 4 p.m. to catch a nap before dinner.
- Wednesday - We'll roll out of the SVCC studio and cover some rolling terrain in the South Bay on our way to the 2006 ToC time trial route near Morgan Hill. Clean up back at the hotel before heading downtown San Jose for a camp wrap-up lunch and and the Stage 3 finish. The day will end at around 5 p.m.
All the routes are subject to minor modification depending on weather and road conditions.
